What Is Juno in Astrology?
Juno is the asteroid astrologers read for commitment: its sign and house describe what a person needs from a long-term partner to feel the relationship is fair, loyal and worth keeping.
A one-sentence definition
Your Juno sign answers one question: what does commitment have to look like for you to trust it? It does not describe who you are attracted to, and it does not name a future spouse.
The asteroid of commitment
Juno was the third asteroid ever found, spotted by Karl Harding at Lilienthal in 1804. It is about 247 km across and goes around the Sun once every 4.36 years, on an orbit tilted 13° to the Earth’s.
Astrologers named its meaning after the Roman queen of the gods, the guardian of marriage and of fair dealing between partners. In a chart, the Juno sign and house are read for loyalty, equality, jealousy and the terms people set for a lasting bond.
Juno, Venus and the 7th house
Three parts of a chart are often mixed up in relationship astrology. They answer three different questions, and a Juno calculator only answers one of them.
Venus: what you enjoy
Venus shows what you find beautiful, what attracts you and how you show affection. It is about pleasure and taste rather than about staying.
The 7th house: who you partner with
The 7th house and the Descendant describe the kind of person you tend to meet as an equal. The Descendant sign calculator reads that side.
Juno: what commitment needs
Juno shows what has to be true for the partnership to feel fair and safe enough to keep. Your Juno sign is the answer to “what do I need to stay?”, not “who do I want?”.
What Juno does not tell you
Juno does not predict marriage, its timing or its outcome. A Juno sign describes needs, and two people with very different Juno signs can meet each other’s needs perfectly well once they know them.
How to Use the Juno Calculator
The Juno calculator needs a birth date and place; the birth time is optional. Finding your Juno sign takes about a second and needs no account.
Step 1: Enter your birth date, time and place
Add your birth date and place, and your birth time if you know it. Without a time, switch on “I don’t know the time”: Juno’s sign and degree still work, and the house is left out.
Step 2: Add a partner, if you want the contacts
Add a second birth chart to see the Juno contacts between the two of you. The partner’s birth time is optional too.
In the example at the top of the page, Casey’s Juno sign is Capricorn, at 4°04′, in the 7th house. Morgan’s Venus sits 0.39° from it, the contact astrologers single out most often, and Casey’s Mercury opposes Morgan’s Juno at 0.14°.
Step 3: Read your Juno card
The card shows Juno’s sign and degree, its house, whether it was retrograde and how common that Juno sign is. The dial behind it shows all twelve signs scaled by how many people have Juno there.
Step 4: Check the dates of this visit
Below the card are the dates Juno entered and left your Juno sign. When a retrograde loop split the visit, both parts are shown.
Step 5: Read the contacts in both directions
With a partner, each Juno gets its own column of contacts, closest first, with the aspect and orb. Juno to Juno, Juno on an angle and each Juno in the other’s houses follow.
If you only want your own Juno sign, leave the partner out. You can add one later; the link in your address bar keeps both charts.
Your Juno Sign, Sign by Sign
Each Juno sign describes a different set of terms for commitment. The Juno calculator gives the full reading for your own Juno sign; here is the short version of all twelve.
Juno in the fire signs
The fire Juno signs want commitment with warmth and momentum in it.
Juno in Aries
Commitment has to leave room for independence and direct talk. Being managed or kept waiting wears it down.
Juno in Leo
Commitment should be warm, generous and openly proud of itself. Being taken for granted is the slow poison.
Juno in Sagittarius
Commitment works as a shared adventure with a sense of meaning. Routine without purpose, or a partner who reads freedom as betrayal, strains it.
Juno in the earth signs
The earth Juno signs want commitment they can see and rely on.
Juno in Taurus
Loyalty is proved by steadiness: the same care, shown up for, every day. Unpredictability, with time or with money, wears it down.
Juno in Virgo
Commitment shows in practical care and a daily life that works. Chaos, and criticism as the default tone, strain it.
Juno in Capricorn
Commitment is a long-term project built on respect and kept promises. Flakiness is the thing this Juno sign forgives least.
Juno in the air signs
The air Juno signs want commitment that keeps talking and stays fair.
Juno in Gemini
Commitment is a conversation that never runs out. Silence and boredom are bigger threats than conflict.
Juno in Libra
Commitment means a fair partnership between equals, and Libra is the sign astrologers tie most closely to Juno. Imbalance, and conflict avoided until it builds up, wear it down.
Juno in Aquarius
Commitment between best friends who keep their own minds, on terms the two of you write yourselves. Possessiveness strains it.
Juno in the water signs
The water Juno signs want commitment that feels emotionally safe.
Juno in Cancer
Commitment is a home: emotional safety and care that flows both ways. Coldness and feeling replaceable wear it down.
Juno in Scorpio
Commitment goes all the way down, with complete honesty and loyalty without conditions. Secrets and unnamed power games strain it.
Juno in Pisces
Commitment is compassion: being seen, forgiven and kept close. Harshness, and idealising a partner until they disappoint, wear it down.
Why Some Juno Signs Are Much More Common
Most calculators treat every Juno sign as equally likely. They are not, and the difference is large enough to change how you read a placement.
The numbers
Among people born between 1940 and 2010, 13.0% have Juno in Scorpio, 12.4% in Sagittarius and 11.5% in Libra. Only 4.6% have Juno in Taurus and 5.2% in Gemini.
So Juno in Scorpio is 2.8 times as common as Juno in Taurus. The Juno calculator shows where your own Juno sign falls on that scale.
Juno’s stretched orbit
Juno’s orbit is an ellipse with an eccentricity of 0.26. Its nearest point to the Sun lies behind late Taurus and its farthest behind late Scorpio.
A body moves fastest near the Sun and slowest far from it. Juno crosses the Taurus side of the zodiac nearly three times faster than the Scorpio side, so it spends far longer in the signs from Libra to Capricorn, and those Juno signs are the common ones.
What a rare Juno sign means
Nothing extra. A rare Juno sign is simply one Juno passes quickly, and its reading is no stronger or stranger than any other. A common Juno sign is no weaker either. The share is there so you know how many people you have that placement in common with.
Juno in the Houses
Your Juno sign says what commitment needs; the house shows where in your life those terms play out. The Juno calculator needs your birth time for it, because the houses turn once a day.
Juno in the angular houses
1st house
Partnership is close to how you see yourself, and you need a partner who sees you as you are rather than as a role.
4th house
Commitment means building a home, and your own family’s patterns tend to echo in the partnerships you choose.
7th house
Juno sits in the house of partnership itself, a placement astrologers read as strong. Committed relationships are central, and clear, fair agreements matter.
10th house
Commitment is visible and tied to your public life and work. Being seen as a couple matters to you.
Juno in the succedent houses
2nd house
Trust is built through money, possessions and shared values. A matching idea of security matters.
5th house
Commitment needs romance and play to stay alive. You want a partner who keeps courting you.
8th house
Commitment goes deep: intimacy, shared money and full honesty. Power is where the partnership grows or strains.
11th house
Commitment grows out of friendship and shared ideals, and your friends tend to play a part in it.
Juno in the cadent houses
3rd house
Commitment lives in everyday conversation. How you two exchange news says a lot about how the partnership is doing.
6th house
Commitment shows in daily care and routine. What you do for each other on an ordinary day counts most.
9th house
Commitment connects to belief, learning and travel, and a shared outlook matters as much as shared habits.
12th house
Commitment is private and quietly deep. Compassion and patience matter, including with old patterns a close bond brings up.
Placidus or Whole Sign?
House systems can disagree about a planet near a cusp. The Juno calculator uses Placidus and shows the Whole Sign house beside it when the two differ.
Casey’s Juno is one example: the 7th house in Placidus, the 8th in Whole Sign. Both readings are on the result page, so you can see which one sounds more like you.
How Long Juno Stays in a Sign, and Retrograde Juno
Sign stays: from a week to eleven months
Juno changes sign about 3.49 times a year. A typical stay lasts 80 days, but the range runs from 7 days to 335. That is why two people born a few months apart often have different Juno signs.
The stretched orbit that makes some Juno signs common shows here too. Juno’s median stay is 54 days in Taurus and Gemini and 102 days in Scorpio.
When a retrograde splits the visit
Seen from the Earth, Juno sometimes turns back. When that loop crosses a sign boundary, Juno leaves its sign and returns, so one pass becomes two or three separate stays.
That happens to 26.8% of Juno’s passes through a sign. In Seattle time, Casey’s Juno entered Capricorn on 12 January 1991 and crossed into Aquarius on 3 May. It turned retrograde there, came back into Capricorn on 15 June and stayed until 20 November.
Sign tables that list only ingress dates leave you to spot those re-entries yourself. The Juno calculator lists every stay that belongs to the same pass.
Juno retrograde at birth
Juno is retrograde 21.3% of the time, so about one person in five is born with Juno retrograde. Each retrograde phase lasts 72 to 114 days and comes round every 15.6 months.
Astrologers read a retrograde Juno as commitment worked out on your own terms, often after experience has shown you what you do not want. It is not a sign of a harder marriage.
Juno in Synastry: How the Contacts Work
Add a partner and the Juno calculator compares the two charts. Each Juno is checked against the other person’s planets, their Juno and their angles.
Their planets on your Juno
A contact to your Juno touches what you need from commitment. The other person’s planet describes what they bring to it: affection with Venus, structure with Saturn, intensity with Pluto.
Your planets on their Juno
The same applies the other way round. The two directions are listed in separate columns because they are not the same thing: one is about your terms, the other about theirs.
Juno to Juno
When the two Junos meet, you are comparing the two sets of terms directly. A conjunction means similar needs; a square or opposition means needs that have to be negotiated.
Juno on an angle
The Ascendant
Your Juno on their Ascendant: the way they meet the world looks like what you want in a partner. It is often the first thing you notice.
The Descendant
Your Juno on their Descendant, the point of partnership itself: they tend to see you as a partner. It happens in 3.0% of random pairs.
The Midheaven and the IC
On the Midheaven, commitment touches public life and reputation; on the IC, home and roots. Angles need the birth time of the person they belong to.
The orbs this Juno calculator uses
Conjunctions and oppositions count within 3°, squares, trines and sextiles within 2°. Angles count by conjunction only, within 3°, so Juno opposite the Ascendant appears once, as Juno on the Descendant.
Juno is a small body, and astrologers read it with tight orbs. The next two sections show why that matters more than it seems. For the rest of the chart, open the full synastry chart or the composite chart.
Which Juno Contacts Matter Most
Every planet colours a Juno contact differently. These are the ones readers ask about most.
Venus and Juno
Affection meets commitment. On a conjunction, the way one of you shows love is the kind of devotion the other looks for, which is why this is the contact astrologers single out. It happens in 3.4% of random pairs.
The Sun and Juno
The Sun person’s core self lands on the Juno person’s terms. It often feels like recognition, someone to build a life with.
The Moon and Juno
Feeling at home together and feeling committed become the same thing. Without a birth time, Moon contacts are marked as approximate, because the Moon moves about 13° a day.
Mars and Juno
Drive and desire meet commitment. It brings momentum, and it asks both of you to handle anger and jealousy openly.
Saturn and Juno
Structure and seriousness: a long-term promise from early on, or a weight. Saturn contacts tend to strengthen with time when duties are spelled out.
The outer planets
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move so slowly that anyone born within a few years of your partner has the same one on your Juno. In the example, Casey’s Uranus and Neptune both oppose Morgan’s Juno, a contact Casey shares with most people born around 1991.
These contacts still describe a real theme: freedom, idealism or intensity in commitment. The result page marks them so they are not read as personal to the two of you.
Conjunction, flowing or tense
Conjunction
The planet merges with Juno’s terms. It is the strongest family and the one the readings treat most directly.
Flowing: trine and sextile
The planet supports what Juno needs without effort. Flowing contacts tend to be felt as ease rather than as intensity.
Tense: square and opposition
The planet and Juno want different things, so the terms need to be talked through. A tense contact marks a conversation to have, not a warning.

How Common Juno Contacts Are
Before you read anything into a Juno contact, it helps to know how often two random people have one. We checked 20,000 random pairs with this Juno calculator’s own orbs.
Nine in ten pairs have one
90.3% of random pairs have at least one Juno contact, and the average pair has 2.2. Only 9.7% have none at all.
So a Juno contact on its own does not set a relationship apart. What matters is which planet makes it and how close it is.
The contacts that are rare
Some contacts are genuinely uncommon. Venus conjunct Juno appears in 3.4% of pairs, Juno on the other’s Descendant in 3.0%, and Juno conjunct Juno in 2.0%.
A conjunction of any kind is far more common: 40.4% of pairs have one. A conjunction or opposition with the Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars appears in 23.9%.
Why the orb changes everything
With one orb for every aspect, the share of pairs with a Juno contact climbs from 61.3% at 1° to 85.5% at 2°, 94.7% at 3° and 99.8% at 6°. Six degrees is a common default in asteroid synastry tools.
At that width, almost everyone has a Juno contact with almost everyone, and the contact stops saying anything. Tight orbs keep the list short enough to mean something.
Juno Conjunct Juno and Age Gaps
Juno conjunct Juno appears in 2.0% of random pairs. It depends almost entirely on how far apart the two birthdays are.
Born a few weeks apart
People born 10 days apart have a 51% chance of Juno conjunct Juno; at 30 days it falls to 13.8%. Beyond a few weeks, Juno has usually moved on.
Born about 13 years apart
The chance climbs back to 62.3% for people born 13.05 years apart, 55.6% at 34.95 years, 45.3% at 21.92 years and 44.6% at 26.08 years. In between it is close to zero.
Why not every 4.36 years
Juno comes back to the same place in its orbit every 4.36 years, but the Earth has to be in the same place too for the view from here to match. Both line up only near whole numbers of years that are also close to a multiple of Juno’s orbit, such as 13 or 35.
Birth Time, Accuracy and Why Juno Calculators Disagree
What works without a birth time
Juno moves at most 0.6° a day, so your Juno sign and its degree hold for the whole day without a birth time. The house and the angle contacts need the time; the Juno calculator leaves them out rather than guessing.
Days when Juno changes sign
On 1.0% of days, Juno changes sign. If you were born on one of those days and have no birth time, the Juno calculator shows both possible Juno signs and the local time of the change, so you can check against what you know.
How accurate this Juno calculator is
Juno’s position comes from its orbit as published by NASA/JPL Horizons, the reference ephemeris for asteroids. We checked 120 moments between 1900 and 2100 against Horizons’ own positions for Juno.
The largest difference was 23.2 seconds of arc, about a 150th of a degree. Almost all of it is aberration, a correction this site leaves out for every planet; with it applied, the average difference is 0.6 seconds of arc.
Why other calculators can differ
Some tools compute Juno from a single fixed set of orbital elements, which drifts as Jupiter pulls on the orbit. Others use a different house system or a wider orb for contacts.
If two calculators give you different Juno signs, check the date first: you may have been born close to a sign change. Our other small-body tools, the Lilith calculator and the Chiron calculator, follow the same approach.
Juno Myths
“Juno shows the sign of the person you will marry”
Your Juno sign describes what you need from commitment, not a partner’s sun sign. People meet those needs from every sign.
“A Juno contact means the relationship will last”
90.3% of random pairs have at least one Juno contact. A contact shows a theme the two of you share, not a forecast.
“No Juno contact means no commitment”
9.7% of pairs have none, and commitment between them rests on the rest of the chart: the Moon, Venus, Saturn and the 7th house.
“Retrograde Juno means a hard marriage”
About one person in five, 21.3%, has a retrograde Juno. Astrologers read it as commitment on your own terms, not as a difficulty.
Juno Calculator FAQ
›How do I find my Juno sign?
Enter your birth date and place, and your birth time if you have it. The Juno calculator returns Juno’s sign, degree, retrograde state and the dates of its visit to that sign; the house needs the birth time. It is free and needs no account.
›What does Juno mean in astrology?
Juno is the asteroid astrologers read for commitment. Its sign and house describe what you need from a long-term partner to feel the relationship is fair, loyal and worth keeping. It does not predict whom you will marry.
›What is the difference between Juno and Venus?
Venus describes what you enjoy and what attracts you; Juno describes what commitment needs from a partner. The 7th house and the Descendant describe the kind of person you tend to partner with.
›Do I need my birth time to find my Juno sign?
Not for the sign and degree. Juno moves at most 0.6° a day and changes sign on only 1.0% of days; on those days the Juno calculator shows both signs and the local time of the change. The house and the contacts with the angles need the birth time.
›Which Juno sign is the most common?
Scorpio: 13.0% of people born between 1940 and 2010 have Juno there, against 4.6% in Taurus, the rarest. Juno’s orbit is stretched, and it moves slowest at the end that lies in Scorpio.
›What does it mean when someone’s planet is on my Juno?
That planet touches what you need from commitment, and the reading depends on which planet it is and how close. Juno contacts are common: 90.3% of random pairs have at least one at this page’s orbs, while the other person’s Venus conjunct your Juno happens in 3.4% of pairs.
›What does Juno conjunct Juno mean in synastry?
The two of you want similar things from commitment. It happens in 2.0% of random pairs, mostly between people born a few weeks apart or about 13 years apart, where the chance reaches 62.3%.
›What orbs does this Juno calculator use?
Three degrees for conjunctions and oppositions, two degrees for squares, trines and sextiles, and conjunctions only for the angles, at three degrees. Wider orbs say less: at six degrees for every aspect, 99.8% of random pairs have a Juno contact.
›What does retrograde Juno mean?
About one person in five, 21.3%, is born with Juno retrograde: it turns retrograde every 15.6 months for 72 to 114 days. Astrologers read it as working out commitment on your own terms; it is not a sign of a harder marriage.
›Why do Juno calculators give different results?
They use different orbit data, house systems and orbs. This Juno calculator takes Juno’s orbit from NASA/JPL Horizons and stays within 23 seconds of arc of Horizons’ own positions, a small fraction of a degree. Houses are Placidus, with the Whole Sign house shown when it differs.
